Security Tightened at Panjab University as Administration Clamps Down Before Student Bandh

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): With tensions brewing ahead of the student bandh on November 10, the Panjab University (PU) administration has announced a series of precautionary steps to maintain discipline and security across the campus.

Starting Saturday, outsiders and vehicles will not be allowed entry into the university premises. The move, officials said, is intended to prevent the infiltration of non-students and avert any possible disturbances during the protest.

In addition, all students have been ordered to wear their university ID cards visibly while on campus. Security staff have been asked to carry out identity checks and ensure compliance with the directives.

According to sources, the decision follows internal meetings between university authorities and local police, who have been placed on alert. The administration emphasized that these steps are temporary and have been taken solely to uphold peace and safety.

“We respect the right to peaceful demonstration but cannot compromise on campus security,” a university spokesperson said.

The bandh, called by a coalition of student groups, is expected to see widespread participation. However, the university has urged students to avoid any form of agitation that disrupts normal functioning or academic schedules.

Meanwhile, police patrols have been intensified in and around the PU campus, and entry checkpoints have been set up to monitor movement until further notice.
