Jalandhar (Gurpreet Singh): Residents of Jalandhar have been advised to expect temporary traffic restrictions on Friday as elaborate security and mobility arrangements have been put in place ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. The Commissionerate and Rural Police have jointly activated a comprehensive traffic plan that includes 31 diversion points across the city and surrounding areas.
The special arrangements will remain effective from 8 am to 8 pm, with officials requesting commuters to avoid congested stretches and follow the alternative routes identified by the traffic police. The measures have been introduced to facilitate the Prime Minister’s movement while ensuring minimal disruption to the public.
Police teams have been deployed at major intersections, entry points and highways leading into Jalandhar. Senior officers are monitoring the situation, while traffic personnel will remain stationed at critical junctions to regulate vehicle movement and assist commuters.
Long-distance heavy vehicles travelling through Jalandhar will not be allowed on their regular routes during the restricted period. Instead, trucks, trailers and other commercial vehicles have been redirected through alternative corridors connecting Phagwara, Nakodar, Kapurthala, Subhanpur, Mehtiana and Hoshiarpur, depending on their destination.
The advisory also affects public transport. Intercity buses heading towards Amritsar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Pathankot will operate through revised routes identified by the police to prevent congestion near the Prime Minister’s programme venues.
Within the city, traffic diversions have been introduced at several busy intersections, including Pathankot Chowk, Nakodar Chowk, Kapurthala Chowk, GNA Chowk, Lama Pind Chowk and surrounding roads. Vehicles approaching from suburban areas will be guided through alternate roads to maintain uninterrupted movement.
The Jalandhar Rural Police have also issued a parallel traffic advisory for motorists entering the city from neighbouring districts such as Dasuya, Tanda, Hoshiarpur, Nakodar, Phagwara, Kala Sanghian and Kapurthala. Drivers have been urged to follow the designated diversion routes instead of relying on their usual travel paths.
Authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel, obey traffic instructions and avoid unnecessary travel in restricted areas during the Prime Minister’s visit. Officials said the temporary diversions are intended to balance security requirements with the smooth movement of local traffic throughout the day.
