Scindia Reviews Bharat 6G Mission, Sets Fresh Targets for India’s Push Toward 2030 Leadership

New Delhi, December 9, 2025: Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia chaired a meeting of the Apex Council under the Bharat 6G Mission on Tuesday, reiterating the government’s ambition to position India as a global leader in sixth-generation telecom technology by 2030. The session brought together senior officials, researchers, telecom operators, industry leaders, and members of the Bharat 6G Alliance to assess the country’s current progress and outline expectations for the next phase of development.

Scindia urged the seven working groups under the Alliance to increase coordination, meet more frequently, and adopt measurable quarterly targets. He emphasised that India must transition from a follower to a creator in the telecom technology ecosystem and added that the advantages of 6G should reach citizens across urban and rural regions alike.

Minister of State for Communications Chandrasekhar Pemmasani highlighted the Alliance’s release of eight technical papers covering areas such as spectrum policy, AI-driven networks, green telecom, advanced applications, and next-generation infrastructure. He said these developments reflect India’s shift from merely implementing technology to actively innovating it.

The government also underlined a significant boost to research through the newly approved ₹1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation Fund under the Department of Science & Technology. Anchored in the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, the fund aims to accelerate work on crucial components of 6G, including AI-native networks, semiconductor design, photonics, cybersecurity, advanced sensing systems, and satellite-based communications.

During the meeting, Scindia released three booklets highlighting achievements from 100 5G use-case labs established across higher education institutions. These labs have been engaged in experiment-based learning, prototype creation, and real-world application testing. Awards were presented to top-performing institutions for innovations in agriculture, healthcare, transport safety, and AI-powered solutions. Those recognised in the “Excellent Category” included Punjab Engineering College, Banasthali Vidyapith, IIT Roorkee (AMRIT), and Thapar University.

The minister said the mission’s collective efforts demonstrate India’s readiness to lead future telecom advancements and contribute meaningfully to global 6G standards.
