Kaithal, Haryana (National Times): A tragic accident occurred on Monday morning when a private school bus carrying students from Guru Nanak Academy, Pehwa, lost control and plunged into the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal near Nauch village. The accident left eight children, the driver, and a female conductor seriously injured.
Steering Malfunction Causes Crash
According to initial reports, the bus’s steering system developed a technical fault, making it difficult for the driver to maintain control. As a result, the vehicle veered off the road and fell into the canal. The narrow road alongside the canal may have further contributed to the mishap.
Immediate Rescue Efforts
As the bus sank into the water, the children on board screamed for help. Hearing their cries, nearby villagers rushed to the scene and immediately notified authorities. The Kyodak Chowki Police and Dial 112 emergency team arrived at the location and, with the help of locals, rescued all the injured and transported them to a nearby hospital. Medical reports indicate that their condition remains critical.
Investigation Underway
The police have launched an investigation into the accident, with initial findings pointing to a mechanical failure in the steering system and the challenges posed by the narrow road. Authorities are now looking into whether negligence or inadequate maintenance of the vehicle played a role in the incident.
Officials have assured that measures will be taken to enhance the safety of school transport and prevent such unfortunate accidents in the future.
