New Delhi, April 2, 2025 – The Supreme Court has refused to release popular YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s passport while investigations into his controversial remarks on the show “India’s Got Latent” continue. The court stated that the request would be considered only after the inquiry concludes, which is expected within two weeks.
During the hearing, the bench extended Allahbadia’s interim protection from arrest in connection with multiple FIRs filed in Mumbai, Guwahati, and Jaipur. However, the judges made it clear that until the investigation is complete, his travel restrictions will remain in place.
The controversy erupted after Allahbadia’s statements on his podcast led to widespread criticism and legal action. In response, he submitted an undertaking to the Supreme Court, assuring that he would maintain decency in his future content. The court acknowledged his commitment and allowed him to continue uploading content on “The Ranveer Show” but cautioned him about future content guidelines.
Meanwhile, legal experts suggest that the case could set a precedent regarding social media accountability and freedom of speech. Supporters of Allahbadia have expressed concern over the restrictions imposed on him, arguing that content creators should be given more leeway to express their views. However, critics insist that public figures must be held responsible for their statements.
The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing after the investigation’s completion, at which point it will review Allahbadia’s passport request again.
