New Delhi (National Times): The Supreme Court on Monday permitted YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia to resume uploading his podcasts and shows on social media, subject to certain conditions. The court had previously imposed a temporary restriction on his content following backlash over controversial remarks he made on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show.
Court’s Decision and Allahbadia’s Petition
Allahbadia had approached the Supreme Court, arguing that his podcast is his primary source of livelihood. Considering his plea, the court granted permission for him to continue his content, provided he adheres to content guidelines and avoids offensive remarks.
The Controversy and Legal Investigation
The controversy erupted after Allahbadia’s remarks on the show India’s Got Latent went viral, resulting in multiple FIRs being registered against him. Both the Maharashtra Cyber Cell and Mumbai Police are currently investigating the matter.
On Monday, Allahbadia, along with fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, appeared separately before the Maharashtra Cyber officials to record their statements in the ongoing obscenity case.
Allahbadia’s Response and Apology
According to officials, Allahbadia admitted that his remarks were inappropriate and expressed regret over his choice of words. He acknowledged the criticism he has faced and stated that he had no intention of causing offense.
Allahbadia also clarified that he appeared on Samay Raina’s show as a friend and was not compensated for his participation.
With the Supreme Court’s conditional approval, Allahbadia can now continue his podcast while ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
