Russian Missile and Drone Blitz Devastates Western Ukraine, Claims 19 Lives

Kyu, Ukraine: Western Ukraine faced one of its deadliest nights of the year after a large-scale Russian barrage of missiles and drones struck several regions, leaving at least 19 people dead and many more injured. Ukrainian officials said the coordinated assault caused widespread destruction across residential areas and key infrastructure.

The city of Ternopil suffered the most damage. Two apartment buildings were hit directly, reducing portions of the structures to rubble. Rescue teams worked through the night to pull survivors from collapsed floors, while fires burned across the upper levels.

Authorities reported that energy and transport systems in multiple regions were severely affected. Emergency power cuts were enforced as temperatures continued to fall, intensifying the struggle for affected families.

Ukraine’s Air Force said it managed to intercept a large number of incoming drones and missiles, but the scale of the assault overwhelmed defences. President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was abroad on an official visit, condemned the attack and urged international partners to strengthen Ukraine’s air-defence capabilities.

Officials noted that this strike was part of a renewed pattern of heavy attacks on western regions, far from the usual front-line areas, raising concerns about Russia’s expanding target range.
