Rohtak SP Removed from Post Amid Allegations in IPS Officer’s Death

Preparations underway for the cremation of ASI Sandeep

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): The Haryana government has transferred Rohtak Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya days after the alleged suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The decision comes in the wake of a growing uproar following the discovery of a note allegedly written by Kumar before his death, in which he accused several senior officers — including Bijarniya — of severe mental harassment, caste-based bias, and public humiliation. The note reportedly names eight officials and details what Kumar described as sustained, targeted mistreatment.

In an official communication, the state government announced that Surinder Singh Bhoria, also an IPS officer, will assume charge as the new SP of Rohtak. The next posting for Bijarniya will be notified separately, the order added.

Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer, was found dead at his Chandigarh residence earlier this week in what authorities suspect to be a case of suicide. His family has since called for a thorough probe and immediate action against those mentioned in the note, citing systemic discrimination and abuse of power.

The transfer of Bijarniya is being widely viewed as a step taken in response to mounting pressure from Kumar’s relatives and sections of the public demanding accountability. However, no official statement has yet connected the administrative move directly to the allegations.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the circumstances leading to Kumar’s death continues, with the authorities expected to examine the claims made in the note as part of the broader inquiry. The state’s top police officials have assured that the matter will be handled with fairness and that no allegation will be overlooked.
