Rohit Sharma Holds No. 1 Spot as Virat Kohli Climbs to Second in Latest ICC ODI Rankings

New Delhi, December 10, 2025— India’s ODI lineup dominated the latest ICC rankings update, with Rohit Sharma retaining his position as the world’s top-ranked batter while Virat Kohli closed in on the summit after a standout series against South Africa. Kohli, who last held the No. 1 position in April 2021 before being overtaken by Pakistan’s Babar Azam, delivered a commanding run tally of 302 across three matches, pushing him to second place.

His unbeaten 65 in the Visakhapatnam ODI earned him the Player of the Series award and brought him within just eight rating points of Rohit. The Indian captain secured his top ranking by contributing 146 runs during the series.

Shubman Gill remained at No. 5 despite missing the ODI contests, while stand-in skipper KL Rahul moved up to No. 12. Kuldeep Yadav made significant gains in the bowling category, climbing to No. 3.

South Africa’s players also saw upward movement, with Quinton de Kock rising to No. 13, Aiden Markram to No. 25, and Temba Bavuma to No. 37 in the ODI batting order.

In the T20I rankings, Axar Patel advanced to 13th, Arshdeep Singh to 20th, and Jasprit Bumrah to 25th after India’s commanding 101-run win in Cuttack. Yashasvi Jaiswal continued as India’s highest-ranked Test batter at No. 8, while Gill and Rishabh Pant climbed to No. 11 and No. 13.

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc made one of the most notable moves in the Test rankings, reaching third place after claiming 18 wickets in the opening two Ashes Tests and earning back-to-back Player of the Match awards. Jasprit Bumrah maintained his hold on the top spot in the Test bowling charts as fellow Indian bowlers Mohammad Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav each moved up a position. England’s Harry Brook dropped to fourth among Test batters, allowing Kane Williamson and Steve Smith to rise behind No. 1 Joe Root.
