Patna, November 15, 2025: Rohini Acharya, daughter of former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav, announced on Saturday that she is leaving politics and disowning her family, following the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) disastrous performance in the Bihar Assembly elections. The party secured just 25 out of 243 seats.
In an emotional message, Rohini blamed her decision on RJD MP Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, saying, “This is what Sanjay Yadav had asked me to do… I’m quitting politics and disowning my family.” Her statement has reignited fault lines within the Yadav family.
Earlier this year, Rohini’s brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, was expelled from both the family and the party following personal controversies. He went on to form the Janshakti Janta Dal and contested in the polls, but finished a distant third.
Political analysts say her exit adds to the turmoil within RJD just days after its electoral rout. The Mahagathbandhan alliance, including RJD and Congress, saw a sharp decline, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emerged triumphant with over 200 seats. The BJP alone won 89 seats, and JD(U) secured 85.
Rohini’s departure is being viewed as a symbolic moment, reflecting the changing dynamics within one of Bihar’s most powerful political families.
