Roger Binny to Continue as BCCI President Until September AGM Following Passage of National Sports Bill

New Delhi, August 12, 2025: Former India all-rounder and 1983 World Cup hero Roger Binny will continue as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at least until its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September, following the passage of the National Sports Bill in Parliament on Tuesday.

The new legislation sets the cut-off age for office-bearers of National Sports Federations at 75, in cases where the respective global governing bodies, such as the International Cricket Council (ICC), do not stipulate an age limit. Binny, who turned 70 last month, could potentially serve another term if supported by BCCI members.

“Roger will continue till the board meeting in September. Whether he gets a fresh term depends on what members and other influential stakeholders decide,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

While the BCCI will now fall under the purview of the National Sports Bill, it will remain outside the scope of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, as it does not receive government funding. The board’s legal team is currently reviewing the bill’s provisions.

“The bill has just been passed, so we have time to study it and hold detailed discussions before making any decisions,” the source said, adding that all stakeholders including senior players and coaching staff will be consulted, particularly in view of cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Olympics.

Binny was elected BCCI president in October 2022, succeeding former India captain Sourav Ganguly.
