Rising Heart Disease Among Youth and Women: Ayurveda Warns of Hidden Risks

National Times Bureau (Dr. Naval Kishore): The risk of heart disease is increasingly affecting people between the ages of 20 and 40. In recent times, alarming incidents of heart-related problems, sudden attacks, and cardiac arrest have been reported among young individuals. Cases include people who suddenly suffer heart failure while working out in the gym, playing sports, or even running.

According to Ayurvedic experts, heart problems are no longer limited to the elderly or those with diabetes and high blood pressure. Students, athletes, working professionals, and even people under 30 are increasingly falling into the high-risk category. Women between the ages of 15 and 40 are also showing early signs of heart-related diseases, including weakness, dizziness, shortness of breath, and trouble sleeping.

Ayurveda emphasizes the distinction between heart attacks and cardiac arrest. A heart attack occurs due to a blockage in the arteries supplying blood to the heart, while cardiac arrest results from a malfunction in the heart’s electrical system, causing the heartbeat to stop suddenly and the person to lose consciousness. Immediate CPR is critical for survival.

Experts point to several factors contributing to the rising risk among youth, including stressful lifestyles, lack of proper sleep, hidden or undiagnosed illnesses, and excessive use of supplements. Steroids, protein powders, energy drinks, and recreational drugs further increase vulnerability, while dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, uncontrolled blood sugar, and the pressures of fast-paced living exacerbate the problem.

Ayurvedic practitioners advise consulting specialists, undergoing regular health check-ups, and adopting preventive measures. Tests such as lipid profiles, ECGs, and Ayurvedic screenings can help detect early signs of heart disease and potentially save lives.
