Republic Day Rehearsals to Temporarily Halt Flights at Delhi IGI Airport from Jan 21–26

New Delhi ( Gurpreet Singh): Air travel through Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Delhi, is expected to face notable disruptions between January 21 and January 26, as aviation authorities implement temporary restrictions ahead of India’s Republic Day celebrations.
According to an official Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), all flight operations both arrivals and departures, will be paused daily from 10:20 AM to 12:45 PM during this six-day period. The suspension is required to facilitate security drills, parade rehearsals, and Indian Air Force flypast practices, which are an integral part of Republic Day preparations. The daily shutdown of approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes is likely to affect a significant number of domestic and international flights, including long-haul services and transit connections that use Delhi as a major hub. Aviation sources estimate that hundreds of flights could experience delays, rescheduling, or operational adjustments over the course of the restriction period.

Airlines are expected to manage the impact by altering departure times, delaying arrivals, or rerouting aircraft, depending on operational feasibility. Passengers may also face extended layovers or missed onward connections, particularly during peak daytime travel hours.

Passenger Advisory:
Travellers flying to, from, or via Delhi during this period are strongly advised to:
• Regularly check flight status with airlines
• Allow extra buffer time for connections
• Avoid scheduling flights during the restricted window where possible
• Stay alert for airline notifications regarding delays or changes

The temporary measures are part of heightened national security arrangements ahead of Republic Day on January 26, one of India’s most significant national events. Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead and remain informed to minimize inconvenience during this period
