Ravneet Bittu Lauds Centre for Swift Action on Punjab’s Power Demands

Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu Denied Meeting with Punjab CM, Alleges Political Vendetta

Chandigarh (National Times): Punjab has received a major nod from the Central Government to strengthen its power infrastructure, with Union Minister Ravneet Bittu confirming prompt approval of key energy proposals made by the state.

Taking to X, Bittu praised the Centre’s responsiveness: “The Union Government has never held back on supporting Punjab. Every issue raised by Punjab’s Power Minister yesterday was wholeheartedly acknowledged and promptly approved by the Union Minister.”

The approved proposals include:

  • Sanctioning of three new power generation units, each with a capacity of 800 MW, expected to greatly ease electricity shortages.
  • Resolution of coal transportation challenges, ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply to existing power plants.

Officials from Punjab’s Power Department have welcomed the development, stating that the new plants will help the state move towards energy self-sufficiency and reduce dependence on costly power imports.

Political analysts see this as an example of Centre-state cooperation yielding tangible results for the public. With summer demand surging, the timing of the decision is being viewed as both strategic and necessary.

This development may also provide a political boost to Bittu, who has been advocating strongly for federal support to Punjab’s power sector.
