National Times Bureau :- The water level in the Ravi River has risen sharply, putting the Ajnala region of Punjab on flood alert once again. Officials have started taking precautionary measures as the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in the coming days, which could worsen the situation.
Ajnala SDM Ravinder Singh Arora held an emergency meeting with village sarpanches, instructing residents not to cross the river until October 12. People living near the riverbanks have been advised to move their livestock, tractors, and essential belongings to safer places.
Authorities said that the area had suffered major losses during previous floods, so preparations are being made in advance this time. Relief teams and local officials are on high alert to respond to any emergency.
SDM Arora appealed to residents to strictly follow the administration’s instructions and avoid putting their lives at risk. He added that with the cooperation of the people, the potential threat can be handled effectively.
The administration has made public safety its top priority as it works to keep the situation under control.
