New Delhi — Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday claimed that insiders from the Election Commission of India (ECI) are now providing him with details of alleged voter fraud, intensifying the party’s accusations against the poll panel.
Speaking at a press conference at the Congress headquarters, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of “protecting vote chors” and enabling irregular deletions and additions in electoral rolls. “We have started getting help from inside the Election Commission. This was not happening before, but now it is, and it won’t stop,” Gandhi said, warning that young voters will not tolerate “vote chori” once they become aware.
Gandhi cited Karnataka’s Aland Assembly constituency, where he alleged over 6,000 votes were fraudulently deleted through software manipulation and impersonation. He said the matter surfaced when a Booth Level Officer noticed her own uncle’s name missing from the voter list. Similar irregularities, Gandhi added, had earlier been reported in Mahadevpura, Karnataka.
“In election after election, communities supporting the Opposition—Dalits, OBCs, Adivasis, minorities—are being systematically targeted for deletions. We now have 100 percent proof of this,” Gandhi asserted, stressing that his claims were supported by verifiable evidence.
The Congress party has long accused the ECI of favoring the BJP in states such as Karnataka and Maharashtra by allegedly manipulating voter rolls. Responding to Gandhi’s latest remarks, the Election Commission urged him to submit evidence through an affidavit and addressed the issue at its own press conference, noting that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision process in Bihar and other states was being carried out transparently.
