Jaipur, August 30, 2025: Rajasthan Royals confirmed on Saturday that head coach Rahul Dravid will step down before the 2026 Indian Premier League season, after declining a “broader role” within the franchise.
Dravid, who was appointed head coach ahead of the 2025 season, ends his latest stint with the Royals at a time when speculation also surrounds skipper Sanju Samson’s future with the team. Reports suggest Samson may be looking to part ways, potentially leaving the franchise in a difficult position ahead of the upcoming mini auction.
In an official statement posted on X, the Royals praised Dravid’s long association with the team. “Rahul has been central to the Royals’ journey for many years. His leadership has influenced a generation of players, instilled strong values within the squad, and left an indelible mark on the culture of the franchise,” the statement read.
The franchise revealed that during its recent structural review, Dravid was offered an expanded role but chose not to accept it. “The Rajasthan Royals, its players, and millions of fans worldwide extend heartfelt thanks to Rahul for his remarkable service,” the franchise added.
If Samson follows Dravid out, the Royals could face a leadership vacuum just months before reshaping their squad for IPL 2026.
