Sindhu returned to the winner’s podium in style on Sunday, overcoming Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in straight games to secure her maiden Japan Open title. The victory marks a significant milestone in Sindhu’s career, as she became the first Indian player to claim the prestigious championship.
The experienced Indian shuttler prevailed 21-17, 21-17, producing a composed and tactically superior performance against the home favourite, who was playing before an enthusiastic local crowd.
The title is Sindhu’s first Super 750 triumph and her biggest achievement on the BWF circuit since lifting the World Championship crown in 2019. It also ends a prolonged wait for a major international title, underlining her return to top-level form.
