Dehradun, October 26 – The Uttarakhand government’s focused efforts have significantly boosted tourism and pilgrimage activities across the state. According to the Tourism Department, over the past three years, more than 23 crore tourists have visited Uttarakhand, marking a notable surge in both domestic and international visitors.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted that tourism forms the backbone of Uttarakhand’s economy, providing direct benefits to local communities. “Tourism and pilgrimage activities not only generate income for the state but also support livelihoods for homestay owners, hotel and dhaba operators, women’s self-help groups, and transport service providers,” he said.
The state’s tourism sector has expanded beyond major cities and popular hill stations to include remote destinations, offering a diverse experience for travelers. Adventure tourism, including rafting, trekking, bungee jumping, and mountaineering, has attracted both domestic and foreign tourists. Currently, over 6,000 homestay operators are directly benefiting from the increased tourist activity.
Pilgrimage tourism has also seen substantial growth. This year alone, around 50 lakh devotees have undertaken the Char Dham Yatra. Over 4,300 horse and mule operators have provided services along the Kedarnath and Yamunotri trekking routes. The government is now promoting winter pilgrimages and tourism, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent Adi Kailash visit has further accelerated pilgrimage and tourism development in the Pithoragarh border area.
The Uttarakhand government continues to focus on sustaining year-round tourism activities, ensuring that the benefits reach a wide spectrum of local stakeholders, enhancing both economic development and community welfare.
