Chandigarh, March 12, 2025 – Punjab Police intensified its war on drugs under the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, with massive raids across the state for the 12th consecutive day. The operation resulted in the arrest of 118 drug smugglers and the registration of 71 FIRs.
Major Results of the Operation
Over the last 12 days, Punjab Police have arrested a total of 1,658 drug smugglers. In the latest round of raids at 543 locations, police teams recovered:
994 grams of heroin
4,633 intoxicant tablets, pills, and injections
₹1.47 lakh in drug money
The coordinated raids were carried out under the directions of Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav across all 28 police districts. Over 250 police teams, comprising more than 1,600 personnel and supervised by 102 gazetted officers, conducted the operation and checked 659 suspicious individuals.
Government’s Commitment to a Drug-Free Punjab
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed police and district officials to make Punjab drug-free within three months. The state government has also established a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema to monitor progress.
Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla highlighted that Punjab Police has implemented a three-pronged strategy to combat drugs:
1. Enforcement – Targeting smugglers and drug networks through large-scale raids.
2. De-addiction – Convincing 19 individuals to seek rehabilitation and treatment.
3. Prevention – Holding 154 awareness events to educate the public on the dangers of drug abuse.
Crackdown on Pharmaceutical Shops
As part of the enforcement drive, police inspected 281 pharmaceutical shops in districts including Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana (Commissionerate), Ludhiana Rural, Khanna, and Malerkotla. The aim was to ensure compliance with regulations and prevent the illegal sale of intoxicant tablets and habit-forming drugs.
Ongoing Fight Against Drugs
The Punjab Police have vowed to continue these operations until the drug menace is eradicated. “We have a comprehensive strategy, and such raids will not stop until Punjab is drug-free,” said Special DGP Shukla.
