Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Weather conditions in Punjab continue to remain unpredictable, with people across the state experiencing dense fog, rainfall, hailstorms and intermittent sunshine over the past few days. Several districts are still witnessing persistent fog, accompanied by a noticeable dip in temperatures.
According to the latest forecast issued by the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, parts of Punjab are likely to receive rainfall on January 31 and February 1. Earlier, the department had issued an orange alert warning of dense fog and cold wave conditions across the state.
While mornings and evenings continue to be cold, there has been a marginal increase in daytime temperatures. The maximum temperature has risen by around 1.4 degrees Celsius, bringing it closer to the seasonal average. Faridkot recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Punjab at 3 degrees Celsius.
The weather office said light to moderate rainfall is expected at several places on February 1. Isolated areas may also receive light to moderate showers on January 31, as well as on February 2 and 3. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain stable over the next 48 hours, after which they are likely to rise by three to four degrees Celsius.
Cold wave conditions are expected to prevail at isolated locations in districts including Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur and Malerkotla. Dense fog is also likely in parts of Fazilka, Muktsar, Bathinda and Mansa.
In addition, foggy conditions may persist in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Moga, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala and SAS Nagar (Mohali), the department said.
