Chandigarh, April 6, 2025 — The Punjab Government is set to launch an ambitious 54-day education festival, Sikhya Kranti, beginning April 7, to celebrate and inaugurate newly developed infrastructure worth ₹2,000 crore in 12,000 government schools across the state.
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced the initiative on Sunday, declaring it a historic step toward ensuring equitable, modern, and empowering education for Punjab’s children. The transformation includes renovated classrooms, smart learning facilities, and upgraded basic amenities in government schools.
Minister Bains highlighted Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision, stating that schools now offer clean drinking water, high-speed Wi-Fi, gender-segregated toilets, desks, and boundary walls. Punjab has become the first state to appoint campus managers and security guards in schools, along with running dedicated student bus services that currently benefit over 10,000 children.
On day one of Sikhya Kranti, Cabinet Ministers and dignitaries will inaugurate development projects in more than 350 schools. CM Mann and State Incharge Manish Sisodia will jointly inaugurate a School of Eminence in SBS Nagar, marking a key milestone.
The state has built 5,399 new classrooms, 6,812 boundary walls spanning 1,000 km, and 2,976 new toilets, while repairing thousands more. To support learning, 1.16 lakh dual desks, chairs, and tables have been provided. Additionally, 359 playgrounds and 2,261 smart classrooms fitted with interactive panels have been developed to enhance student engagement.
Punjab is also converting 118 Senior Secondary Schools into Schools of Eminence (SoE) in phases, with 14 already operational. These institutions serve classes 9 to 12 and offer all academic streams, free uniforms, and coaching for competitive exams like NEET, JEE, CLAT, and Armed Forces preparatory tests.
Minister Bains invited all citizens to visit their nearby schools and take part in this “festival of education,” calling it a collective moment of pride and progress for the state.
