Chandigarh: Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has announced that the state government will celebrate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and the foundation day of Sri Amritsar Sahib at an international level.
Speaking to the media, Sandhwan said these events will not be limited to Punjab or India but will be marked across the world. He emphasized that these commemorations are not only significant to the Sikh faith but are a legacy of all humanity.
He revealed that the government has launched a website, email, and phone lines to collect suggestions from people of all religions, communities, and organizations. “The sacrifices of Guru Sahib belong to everyone, so the way we commemorate them should also be collective,” he said.
Sandhwan shared that starting today, he will meet with different religious groups, academic institutions, intelligentsia, and universities to gather ideas. “Every day, you’ll see me meeting with some person or institution,” he added.
The Speaker said that modern technology will be used to take the message of Guru Sahib’s martyrdom and Sikh history to a global audience.
Referring to Sri Harmandir Sahib, he highlighted its foundation was laid by a saint of another faith, a gesture that reflects the inclusive essence of Sikhism.
In conclusion, Sandhwan appealed to all Punjabis, communities, and religious bodies to come forward and contribute. “It is our shared responsibility to make Guru Sahib’s martyrdom truly memorable,” he said.
