New Delhi, February 11, 2025 (ANI): As uncertainty looms over the stability of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, senior Congress MP Manish Tewari has warned that any political turmoil in the border state could have “very severe national repercussions.”
Tewari emphasized Punjab’s strategic significance, criticizing the central leadership for failing to understand the complexities of the state. “Punjab is a border state. Our western neighbor is always hyperactive in trying to subvert and destroy its peace. Therefore, political instability here will have severe national repercussions. Delhi has never understood Punjab and unfortunately, never will,” he said. He also called for a dedicated “border policy” to ensure stability in sensitive regions like Punjab and Manipur.
Amid AAP’s crushing defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has ramped up its attacks on the Bhagwant Mann-led government, claiming that its collapse is imminent. BJP general secretary Tarun Chugh declared, “The countdown for the fall of the AAP government in Punjab has begun. The so-called Delhi Model has been rejected by the people.” BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal echoed the sentiment, stating that “Delhi has punished Kejriwal for AAP’s failures, and Punjab will follow.”
Adding to AAP’s troubles, Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa claimed that over 30 AAP MLAs in Punjab are in touch with Congress and ready to switch sides. Bajwa accused the Mann government of failing to act against corruption within its ranks, predicting AAP’s downfall in the 2027 elections.
Following AAP’s disastrous performance in Delhi—where it won just 22 seats compared to BJP’s 48—Arvind Kejriwal held an emergency meeting with Bhagwant Mann and Punjab ministers to assess damage control strategies. However, BJP leaders, including Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, dismissed AAP’s future, stating, “AAP has finished. Just like BSP lost deposits in most Delhi seats, AAP will soon meet the same fate.”
With BJP actively working to destabilize AAP in Punjab and Congress attempting to regain lost ground, Punjab’s political landscape is set for turbulence. Given its sensitive border location and history of political volatility, the central government’s handling of the situation will be crucial in the coming months.
