Chandigarh: Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has apprehended a suspected shooter linked to a high-profile murder case in Himachal Pradesh, striking another blow against organized crime.
The accused, identified as Vipan Kumar of Bassi Muda village in Hoshiarpur, was caught with a country-made .32 bore pistol and six live cartridges. Police said a case has been lodged at City Kharar Police Station, and further questioning is in progress.
Investigators revealed that Kumar is believed to be among the key assailants involved in the killing of Rakesh Kumar, alias Gaggi, in Khwaja Basal village, Una district. The murder, according to police, stemmed from a violent turf war between rival gangs operating under foreign-based leaders — Laddi Bhajal alias Kooner and Monu Gujjar from the Ravi Balachauria group, and Babbi Rana, who is aligned with Sonu Khatri’s syndicate.
Officials confirmed that the slain man, Gaggi, had close links with gangster Babbi Rana, making him a target in the ongoing rivalry.
Police emphasized that the crackdown highlights their determination to dismantle gangster networks and maintain law and order across Punjab.
