Ferozepur (Gurpreet Singh): Punjab Police has achieved a major success in its fight against narcotics trafficking after Counter Intelligence officials in Ferozepur uncovered an alleged cross-border drug smuggling operation and arrested four people linked to the network.
During the operation conducted in Guruharsahai, police recovered 28.12 kilograms of heroin and seized ₹9.5 lakh in suspected drug proceeds. The recovery is being considered one of the significant recent crackdowns on narcotics movement in the border belt.
Initial investigation suggests the accused were allegedly acting on instructions from handlers operating from abroad. Investigators believe the group had been tasked with receiving the narcotics consignment after it crossed into Indian territory and ensuring its further delivery to local distributors.
Officials said the operation points to a larger organised syndicate with international connections. The suspects are believed to have been working as part of a coordinated supply chain involving foreign-based traffickers and local facilitators responsible for moving drugs deeper into Punjab and neighbouring regions.
Police teams are now examining communication records, financial transactions, and movement patterns of the accused to establish the full extent of the network. Authorities are also trying to identify those involved in both supplying and distributing the seized heroin.
Senior officers indicated that the probe is still in its early stages and more arrests are expected as investigators work to expose the entire network.
Punjab Police stated that strict monitoring along the border remains in place and reaffirmed its commitment to taking strong action against narco-smuggling activities.
The seizure marks another major step in the state’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, as security agencies continue efforts to break the supply chains fuelling illegal narcotics trade in Punjab.
