Punjab Police Officers Honoured with President’s and Meritorious Service Medals on Independence Day Eve

Chandigarh, August 14, 2025 – On the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced the names of Punjab Police officers selected for the prestigious President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PMDS) and the Medal for Meritorious Service (MMS), in recognition of their exceptional contributions to policing and public service.

Two officers have been conferred with the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service this year. They include MF Farooqui, IPS, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), State Armed Police, Punjab, and Inspector Suresh Kumar from Counter Intelligence, Ludhiana. Their recognition highlights decades of dedicated service in strengthening state security and upholding the rule of law.

In the Medal for Meritorious Service category, Gurdial Singh, IPS, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Intelligence-II, and Gurpreet Singh, Punjab Police Service (PPS), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at SSOC Amritsar, were among those honoured. Alongside them, 12 other officers and officials were awarded, including Inspectors Satinder Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Jagdeep Singh, and Tejinderpal Singh; Sub-Inspectors Amrik Singh, Sanjiv Kumar, Amritpal Singh, Anil Kumar, and Bhupinder Singh; Assistant Sub-Inspectors Jaswinderjit Singh and Kuldeep Singh; and SI Krishan Kumar.

Congratulating the awardees, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav expressed gratitude to both the Central and State Governments for recognising the relentless service of Punjab Police officers. “This recognition strengthens the morale of the entire force and motivates us to serve with renewed dedication, which is crucial for a border state facing diverse security challenges,” he said.

The honours serve as a morale booster for Punjab Police, which continues to confront terrorism, drug trafficking, and organised crime while maintaining law and order across the state. Officials said the recognition not only brings pride to the force but also reflects the government’s commitment to acknowledging those who safeguard peace and security.
