Tarn Taran (Punjab), April 21, 2025 — In a significant breakthrough in the Sarpanch Bachittar Singh murder case, the Anti Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and Tarn Taran Police have arrested Sukhbir Singh alias Sukh, the main accused, in a joint operation. The arrest comes amid Punjab’s intensified crackdown on organized crime, directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Sukhbir Singh, a resident of Barwala in Tarn Taran, was apprehended near Gurdwara Sahib in Pahuwind village. Police teams tracked him using human intelligence and technical inputs. His black Hero Splendor motorcycle was also seized.
Sarpanch Bachittar Singh, known locally as Bikkar, was fatally shot by bike-borne assailants on September 12, 2024, in Naushera Pannuan village. Investigators believe Sukhbir Singh not only helped plot the murder but also conducted reconnaissance on the victim.
According to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the arrested man is a habitual offender with multiple prior cases under the NDPS and Arms Acts, along with a history of snatching incidents. Authorities are now pursuing his associates to uncover the full scope of his criminal network.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Promod Ban credited the arrest to coordinated efforts led by AIG Sandeep Goel and SSP Abhimanyu Rana. The operation brings the total number of arrested suspects in the case to seven out of eight. A manhunt is underway to capture the last remaining accused.
An FIR (No. 119) was previously registered under sections 103 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Sarhali.
