Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Punjab Police have arrested two alleged associates of a gangster network in a joint operation involving the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), Counter Intelligence Punjab and SBS Nagar Police, foiling an alleged plan to kill a rival gang member during a court appearance.
According to Punjab Police, two sophisticated .30-calibre pistols and ammunition were recovered from the accused, who were apprehended in the Nawanshahr area.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects were in contact with handlers based abroad and had allegedly been instructed to target a rival gang member when he appeared before a court in SBS Nagar. Police said their arrest helped avert the planned attack.
The investigation has also uncovered a possible link to the murder of a sarpanch in Ludhiana on October 3, 2026. Police said the arrested men allegedly disclosed their involvement in the killing, which investigators suspect may have been arranged as a contract hit through foreign-based handlers.
Authorities are now working to verify the disclosures and establish the extent of the accused persons’ connections with organised criminal networks operating within and outside Punjab.
The police have not disclosed the identities of the arrested individuals or provided further details about the alleged target in SBS Nagar.
Punjab Police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt gangster networks, prevent targeted violence and strengthen security across the state. Further investigation is underway to identify other suspects and establish the full extent of the alleged criminal activities.
