Punjab Police Dismiss 52 Personnel in Anti-Corruption Crackdown

Chandigarh, February 20, 2025: In a major drive against corruption and misconduct, Punjab Police have dismissed 52 personnel over the past 10 days, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced on Wednesday. The move aligns with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s directive to ensure transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service.

Action Against Corruption and Absenteeism

The dismissed officials include:

1 Inspector
5 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs)
4 Head Constables
42 Constables

The highest dismissals occurred in:
Ludhiana (7 dismissals) – 4 under the Commissionerate of Police and 3 in Ludhiana-Rural
Patiala (5 dismissals)
Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur (4 each)
The dismissals come in the wake of AAP’s renewed focus on eradicating corruption after its disappointing performance in the Delhi Assembly elections. The Mann-led Punjab government has stepped up efforts to clean up the police force, particularly targeting “black sheep” in uniform.

Ongoing Crackdown on Corrupt Officers

DGP Yadav stated that Commissioners of Police and SSPs had been tasked with identifying tainted officials involved in FIRs, corruption, or serious misconduct. The action will continue in phases.
In a recent case, an SHO and two constables were arrested in Faridkot on extortion charges.

Punjab Police to Introduce e-FIR for Vehicle Theft

Alongside the crackdown, Punjab Police are set to launch an e-FIR facility for motor vehicle theft. Complainants will soon be able to file FIRs online or at Saanjh Kendras, making the process more efficient and accessible.
