Punjab Police Detain Farmer Leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher in Mohali

Mohali, March 19, 2025 — In a significant development, Punjab Police detained prominent farmer leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher in Mohali on Wednesday. The detentions occurred as the leaders were returning from a meeting with the Central Government, sparking concerns among farmer organizations.

The exact reasons for the detentions remain undisclosed, leading to widespread speculation and unrest among the farming community. Farmer groups have condemned the move, alleging it as an attempt to suppress their ongoing agitation.

This incident is not isolated. In November 2024, Dallewal was detained ahead of a planned hunger strike advocating for a legal guarantee of minimum support prices (MSP) for crops. He was taken from the Khanauri border protest site and admitted to a hospital in Ludhiana.

The recent detentions have raised concerns about the government’s approach to addressing farmers’ demands and the potential implications for future dialogues between farmer unions and authorities.
