Punjab Police Cracks Down on Multinational Human Trafficking Nexus: SIT Registers Multiple FIRs Against Fraudulent Immigration Agents

Second US Deportation Flight Carrying 119 Indians, Including 67 Punjabis, to Land in Amritsar Today

Chandigarh, February 10, 2025: In a major crackdown on fraudulent immigration consultants and human trafficking networks, the Punjab Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has launched an extensive operation to dismantle a multinational human trafficking nexus operating across the region. This decisive action comes in response to complaints from Indian citizens recently deported from the United States, who landed in Amritsar after being defrauded by unscrupulous travel agents promising illegal entry into the U.S.

The SIT, headed by ADGP NRI Affairs Praveen Sinha, has registered eight FIRs so far—two filed by district police and six by the NRI Affairs Wing—based on testimonies from the deportees. Senior officials, including ADGP Internal Security Shive Kumar Verma, IGP Dr. S Boopathi, and DIG Border Range Satinder Singh, are actively coordinating with Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) across various districts to ensure swift action.

Deportees have shared harrowing accounts of being lured with false promises of safe passage, subjected to dangerous journeys, and abandoned after paying hefty sums to fraudulent agents. The investigation is now focusing on uncovering the full extent of the trafficking network, with leads connecting agents operating in Punjab, Delhi, and several foreign countries. Senior officials have met with the victims to address their grievances and reassure them of the government’s commitment to justice.

Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, stated, “We will not tolerate the exploitation of innocent people by fraudulent immigration networks. The SIT is dedicated to ensuring accountability and legal action against those responsible for illegal human trafficking.” ADGP Praveen Sinha emphasized the aggressive approach of the SIT, noting, “Our team is working around the clock to uncover the full extent of this nexus. No offender will be spared, whether operating locally or internationally.”

The crackdown has brought relief to many deportees, who expressed gratitude for the swift response from law enforcement. Some shared emotional stories of financial ruin and life-threatening experiences during their attempts to enter the U.S. illegally. To prevent further exploitation, the Punjab Police plans to launch public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about the dangers of illegal immigration and the importance of verifying immigration consultants through official government channels.

Punjab Police Advisory:
Citizens are urged to:

1. Verify immigration consultants through official government channels.

2. Report fraudulent activities immediately to local police or the Punjab NRI Affairs Helpline.

3. Avoid illegal immigration routes that pose life-threatening risks.

This is an ongoing investigation, and further updates will follow as more developments emerge.
