Amritsar, July 2: In a significant intelligence-led operation, the Counter Intelligence unit of Amritsar Police has dismantled a major cross-border network involved in smuggling narcotics and illegal arms from Pakistan. The operation led to the arrest of three operatives and the seizure of eight sophisticated weapons, including Glock pistols and Chinese-made firearms, along with one kilogram of heroin, ₹2.9 lakh in drug proceeds, and a currency counting machine.
According to preliminary investigations, the arrested individuals were operating under the instructions of a Pakistan-based smuggler who orchestrated the movement of weapon consignments across the Indo-Pak border. Police officials said the weapons were intended for distribution to gangsters in Punjab, aimed at fueling organized crime and violence in the region.
An FIR has been registered at Police Station SSOC, Amritsar, and further investigations are ongoing to trace and dismantle the wider network involved in this transnational operation.
Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to eradicating the nexus of drugs and illegal arms to ensure the safety and stability of the state.
