Ferozepur, October 4, 2025: Punjab’s shifting drug landscape has taken a more dangerous turn, with addicts increasingly replacing heroin, tablets, and capsules with Ice the street name for crystal methamphetamine, a powerful synthetic stimulant. Officials warn that Ice is even more harmful than heroin, as it heightens brain-to-body communication speed and is often consumed through smoking or injection, significantly raising the risk of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B and C. In extreme cases, overdose can prove fatal.
Despite consistent awareness campaigns and intensified police action against drug trafficking, the growing recovery of Ice across Punjab has become a serious concern for law enforcement agencies.
In a recent crackdown, a police team led by SHO Gurvinder Kumar of Ferozepur Sadar apprehended 22-year-old Ramanpreet Singh alias Ramni, a resident of Habib Ke village, during a naka near Gulam Hussain village. Police seized 863 grams of Ice, two mobile phones, and an unregistered black Hero Passion motorcycle from his possession.
Interrogation revealed that Ramni was allegedly in contact with a Pakistani smuggler named Ali, from whom he obtained the narcotics. His task was to deliver the consignment to two individuals Pinder Singh, son of Jasmel Singh, and Shavinder Singh, son of Tej Singh both residents of Dan Singh Wala village in Bathinda district.
Acting on this lead, police arrested Pinder and Shavinder near Udham Singh Chowk. The duo was also found in possession of an unregistered motorcycle and two mobile phones.
All three accused have been booked under the NDPS Act in Case No. 276, dated October 3, 2025, under Sections 21-C and 61/85. Police investigations are ongoing to trace the larger network behind the inter-district drug supply chain.
