Punjab Police Arrests Drug Smuggler with Pakistan, USA Links; 15 Kg Heroin Seized

Tarn Taran (Punjab), March 31, 2025 – In a major crackdown under Punjab’s anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashean Virudh”, Tarn Taran Police arrested a key drug smuggler with connections to Pakistan and USA-based syndicates. The accused, Harshpreet Singh from Amritsar’s Roranwala, was caught with 15 kg of heroin, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced on Monday.

Police also seized a white Activa scooter (PB 02 CJ 4165) used for smuggling. The arrest comes a day after Tarn Taran Police busted another trafficking network, seizing 6 kg of heroin and arresting two smugglers.

International Drug Network Uncovered
Initial investigations reveal that the seized consignment was part of a network operated by USA-based smuggler Gurnam Kallowal and Pakistan-based handler Pahalwan, who used drones to drop drugs across the border. Harshpreet Singh retrieved the consignments near the border and distributed them to local peddlers. He also sent payments through hawala channels on instructions from his USA-based contact.

Police Crackdown and Ongoing Investigation
The operation, led by Tarn Taran’s CIA teams under SP Investigation Ajay Raj, DSP Goindwal Sahib Atul Soni, and DSP Special Crime Gurinder Pal Nagra, was based on intelligence inputs. Harshpreet was intercepted at Rakh Sarai Amanat Khan while en route to deliver the consignment.

SSP Tarn Taran stated that police are working to dismantle the entire supply chain, from suppliers to buyers. More arrests and seizures are expected in the coming days.

A case has been registered under FIR No. 66 (March 31, 2025) under Section 21(c) of the NDPS Act at Police Station Sadar Tarn Taran.
