Chandigarh, June 24, 2025 — The Punjab Police continued its relentless crackdown on the drug trade under the anti-narcotics campaign “Yudh Nashian Virudh,” arresting 140 drug smugglers and seizing 3 kilograms of heroin along with ₹60,500 in drug money on the 115th day of the drive.
According to officials, this brings the total number of drug-related arrests to a staggering 19,007 since the operation began marking a significant milestone in Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s ongoing war against drugs. The state-wide raids were conducted simultaneously across all 28 police districts under the supervision of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla revealed that over 200 police teams, comprising more than 1,500 personnel and 94 gazetted officers, raided 482 identified locations across the state. These operations led to the registration of 97 new FIRs and the questioning of 510 individuals deemed suspicious.
The Punjab government has adopted a comprehensive three-pronged strategy Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP) to tackle the state’s drug crisis. On Tuesday alone, police teams successfully persuaded 89 individuals suffering from addiction to enroll in de-addiction and rehabilitation programs.
The operation is being closely monitored by a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, ensuring high-level oversight and coordination among the state’s administrative and law enforcement agencies.
CM Mann has consistently emphasized the need for a united front among Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and SSPs to realize the vision of a drug-free Punjab. The continuing momentum of arrests, seizures, and rehabilitation efforts highlights the government’s commitment to the cause.
With arrests nearing the 20,000 mark and de-addiction efforts gaining traction, the state’s campaign appears to be making a tangible impact in dismantling drug networks and supporting victims of addiction.
