National Times Bureau :- The Punjab police have now approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court over the custody of Navneet Chaturvedi, who is accused of forging signatures in Rajya Sabha nomination papers.
Navneet Chaturvedi has also approached high court seeking anticipatory bail and demanded an investigation into the rejection of his Rajya Sabha nomination papers.
He has been placed under the protection of Chandigarh Police.
Both Chaturvedi and the Punjab Police have filed petitions in court. While Chaturvedi has alleged that Punjab Police attempted to abduct him from a Chandigarh police station, Punjab Police have sought directions to stop Chandigarh authorities from interfering in the execution of valid arrest warrants.
The development stemmed from an incident on Tuesday afternoon where Punjab and Chandigarh police officials engaged in a scuffle over Chaturvedi’s custody.
The Punjab police came to arrest Navneet Chaturvedi in connection with forged signatures of AAP MLAs on Rajya Sabha nomination papers. However they encountered restraint from Chandigarh police, who refuse to hand over Chaturvedi citing legal procedures and reportedly moved him to Sector 3 Police Station.
A video of confrontation is doing rounds on social media.
Meanwhile over 200 police officials were doployed outside Sector 3 Police Station in the view that he might come outside and they would nab him.
