Punjab Plans Historic Vidhan Sabha Session in Anandpur Sahib to Mark Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s 350th Martyrdom Anniversary

Chandigarh, October 3: For the first time in Punjab’s history, the state government has proposed to convene a special session of the Vidhan Sabha outside the Assembly complex in Chandigarh. The session is likely to be held in Sri Anandpur Sahib on November 24, coinciding with the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru.

Cabinet Minister Harjot Bains confirmed that the government is considering Baba Jeevan Singh Memorial Park in Anandpur Sahib as the venue. He said preparations are already in progress, with departments coordinating to ensure the event is conducted smoothly.

Bains told Babushahi Network that a series of commemorative events have been planned for the occasion, with final decisions expected during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday. He also noted that the Constitution allows such sessions to be convened anywhere in the state, provided the Governor grants approval.

If cleared by the Punjab Cabinet, this historic sitting will mark a significant precedent, combining legislative governance with spiritual and cultural reverence for Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. The government hopes the move will reflect Punjab’s deep respect for its Sikh heritage while setting an example of symbolic statecraft.
