Chandigarh, November 29, 2025: The Bhagwant Mann–led Punjab government has introduced sweeping reforms in the school education system, replacing rote-learning–based examinations with skill-oriented and competency-based assessments across the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).
The reform marks one of the biggest structural shifts in decades. The new question paper format, designed under a three-day workshop of more than 120 academicians and experts led by PSEB Chairman Dr. Amar Pal Singh, aims to evaluate students on understanding, reasoning, problem-solving and real-life application rather than memorisation.
The Board has adopted the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy to develop modern question papers grounded in analytical thinking, creativity and comprehension. Each subject will now follow a defined blueprint and item matrix, promising transparency and improved evaluation standards. Real-life case-based questions will become a major part of papers in Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and English, encouraging students to apply classroom knowledge to practical situations.
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains also announced the introduction of a new Entrepreneurship course for Class 12. The programme aims to shift students from the mindset of job seekers to job creators and strengthen the culture of innovation and self-employment among the youth.
The government believes these reforms will significantly transform learning outcomes for students across nearly 13,000 public and private schools in the state. Officials say the shift to competency-based learning will prepare students for 21st-century challenges by fostering critical thinking and essential life skills.
With this move, the Mann government has signalled its commitment to providing global-standard education and nurturing a skilled, future-ready generation.
