Punjab – NHRC Takes Suo Motu Notice of Police Assault on Journalist in Batala

National Times Bureau :- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a shocking incident in Batala, Punjab, where police officers allegedly assaulted a journalist. Reports suggest that the journalist was attacked while carrying out his professional duties, raising serious concerns about press freedom and the misuse of police authority.

The NHRC has issued notices to the Punjab Director General of Police and the state’s Chief Secretary, seeking a detailed report on the matter. The Commission has asked for clarity on the action taken against the responsible officers and measures being implemented to ensure the safety of journalists in the state.

The incident has sparked outrage among media organizations and civil rights groups, who have demanded strict action against those involved. The NHRC underlined that freedom of the press is vital in a democratic setup and any attempt to suppress it through intimidation or violence is unacceptable.
