Karnal (Gurpreet Singh) Sanour MLA Harmeet Pathanmajra escaped from police custody on Tuesday after a violent clash with the escorting team.
Police said the legislator and his aides opened fire while being taken to a nearby station. One officer was injured in the firing, and in the chaos, Pathan Majra managed to flee. Officials further stated that the MLA ran his vehicle over the injured policeman before speeding away.
The group left the scene in two vehicles — a Scorpio and a Fortuner. While police managed to intercept the Fortuner, the MLA evaded capture in the Scorpio.
Senior officers have launched an intensive manhunt, deploying multiple teams to trace the absconding legislator. The injured policeman is receiving treatment, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
