Punjab MLA Demands FIR Against IMD and BBMB Over Flood Mismanagement

Chandigarh, September 29, 2025: During a special session of the Punjab Assembly, MLA and former Cabinet Minister Pargat Singh raised a strong demand for registering an FIR against the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) over alleged flood mismanagement in the state.

Addressing the assembly from Jalandhar Cantonment, Singh accused both agencies of betraying Punjab. He pointed out that the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister had already filed an FIR against the BBMB and emphasized that similar action should be taken in Punjab.

Singh stated that merely casting votes would not resolve the issue and stressed the need to fight a political battle alongside legal measures. He warned that failure to act against IMD and BBMB could lead to repeated mismanagement in the future. Highlighting previous inaction, he recalled that even in the Shubh Kiran incident, Haryana’s BJP government had not registered an FIR.

Calling for stricter regulations, Singh appealed to the Punjab government to enact a Dam Safety Act. He further offered his full support to collectively push for stronger oversight and accountability in managing the state’s water infrastructure.
