Punjab Launches Statewide Screening Drive for Non-Communicable Diseases

Chandigarh, February 20, 2025: Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh launched a population-based screening initiative on Thursday to combat common non-communicable diseases (NCDs) across the state.

Under this initiative, individuals aged 30 and above will be screened for diabetes, hypertension, and three common cancers—oral, breast, and cervical. The campaign aligns with the National Program for Control of Non-Communicable Diseases and will run until March 31.

Screening Across Healthcare Facilities

The screenings will be conducted at Primary Health Centres, Aam Aadmi Clinics/Ayushman Arogya Kendras, Community Health Centres, District Hospitals, and Sub-Division Hospitals in both rural and urban areas. Trained healthcare professionals, including ASHA workers, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), and Multi-Purpose Workers (MPWs), will carry out the process.

Ensuring Early Detection & Treatment

Speaking at the virtual launch event from Saini Majra village in SAS Nagar district, Dr. Balbir Singh emphasized that early diagnosis is crucial since NCDs are long-term illnesses requiring timely intervention. He also stressed the importance of accurate data collection to track disease prevalence and develop targeted health policies.

The Health Minister urged the public to take full advantage of this screening initiative and ensure their participation for a healthier future.
