Chandigarh, March 15, 2025 – Punjab is set to undergo a major urban transformation with a ₹140 crore project to develop world-class streets in Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar. Announcing the initiative, Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema said the project will reshape 42 kilometers of key streets, improving infrastructure, traffic flow, and aesthetics.
Cheema unveiled the plan during a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, calling it a “historic first” for Punjab. He said the project’s success would determine its expansion to other cities across the state. “This initiative will redefine Punjab’s urban streetscape and bring it to global standards,” he said.
Key Project Details
The project will roll out in three phases:
1. Design Phase – Over four months, top urban planners and international experts will create detailed layouts.

He credited the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for setting a new precedent for urban development in India. “This project will not just improve infrastructure but also transform how citizens experience urban life,” Cheema added.
The initiative promises to enhance Punjab’s urban identity with a focus on excellence, innovation, and sustainability.
