Punjab Government Reduces Power Bills, Simplifies Tariff Structure

Chandigarh, March 28, 2025: The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has reaffirmed its commitment to affordable electricity, ensuring that power tariffs do not burden consumers. Power Minister S. Harbhajan Singh ETO announced that the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) has maintained fixed charges while restructuring tariffs to simplify billing and lower electricity costs.

Tariff Reductions for Domestic and Business Consumers
The PSERC has reduced the number of billing slabs for Domestic Supply (DS) and Non-Residential Supply (NRS) consumers from three to two, making bills easier to understand.

Under the new structure:

Domestic consumers using over 300 units will see monthly bill reductions:

Up to 2 kW load: ₹160 less

2 kW – 7 kW load: ₹90 less

7 kW – 20 kW load: ₹32 less

NRS consumers (up to 20 kW load, 500 units usage) will benefit from a 2-paisa per unit reduction, saving ₹110 per month.

New Category for Residential Complexes
A Single Point Supply category has been introduced for residential colonies, multi-storey complexes, cooperative housing societies, and employer-provided housing under the domestic category. Consumers in this category will benefit from reduced charges:

Fixed charges: ₹130 per kVAh (down from ₹140 per kVAh)

Variable charges: ₹6.75 per kVAh (down from ₹6.96 per kVAh)

The Punjab government continues to prioritize consumer-friendly electricity policies, ensuring affordability while simplifying the billing system.
