Punjab Government Launches Reward Policy and Promotions to Strengthen Anti-Drug Drive

Chandigarh, August 15, 2025 – On the occasion of Independence Day, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a series of measures aimed at empowering the state police and intensifying the fight against drug trafficking.

Under the new “Reward Policy,” police personnel who seize 1 kilogram or more of heroin will receive a cash incentive of ₹1.20 lakh. The initiative is designed to boost morale and encourage stronger enforcement efforts in tackling the narcotics menace.

To accelerate the disposal of cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, CM Mann declared that head constables will now be entrusted with investigation responsibilities. This step is expected to enhance operational efficiency and ensure quicker resolution of cases.

In addition, the Chief Minister announced that 1,600 police personnel will be promoted, while recruitment for another 1,600 posts will begin next week. Officials say that the combination of promotions, fresh recruitment, and the reward scheme will strengthen performance, improve efficiency, and bolster Punjab’s ongoing campaign against drugs.
