Punjab Government Launches Bulldozer Crackdown on Drug Networks in Mandi Gobindgarh

Mandi, March 5, 2025– In a major crackdown under the ‘Yudh Nashe Virudh’ (War Against Drugs) campaign, the Punjab government has launched bulldozer action against properties linked to drug traffickers in Mandi Gobindgarh and other areas. Authorities have demolished illegal structures allegedly built on encroached village land, intensifying the state’s fight against the drug menace.

Demolitions Target Alleged Drug Peddlers’ Properties

Officials confirmed that several unauthorized buildings linked to drug traffickers have been razed as part of the campaign. The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has vowed to eradicate drug networks and has set a three-month deadline for significant progress.

Apart from demolitions, the government is also planning strict measures, including setting up special courts for drug-related cases and cutting off government subsidies for convicted traffickers and their families. “We will not allow Punjab to become a hub of drugs. Those involved in this trade will face strict action,” a government spokesperson said.

Legal Challenges and Opposition Response

The aggressive crackdown has sparked legal and political controversy. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to the state government, questioning the legality of the demolitions. Critics argue that such actions may violate constitutional rights and due process.

Opposition parties have accused the government of taking arbitrary actions without proper legal proceedings. However, supporters of the campaign believe it is a necessary step to eliminate drug-related crime from the state.

The Road Ahead in Punjab’s Drug War

Despite legal hurdles, the Punjab government remains firm on its stance. With increasing pressure from civil society and law enforcement agencies, the success of the ‘Yudh Nashe Virudh’ campaign will be closely watched in the coming months.
