Punjab Government Introduces Mentorship Program for Government Schools

Ghanauri Kalan (Sangrur), March 29, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced that senior IAS and IPS officers will mentor students in government schools across the state, providing guidance and career support to help them excel in life.

Speaking at a Parents Teachers Meeting (PTM) at the School of Eminence, Mann said that each officer would adopt one school to enhance the educational environment, prepare students for competitive exams, and support teacher training. He emphasized that this mentorship would be a voluntary service, with officers working alongside their official duties.

Transforming Punjab’s Education System
The Punjab government has allocated ₹18,047 crore (11% of the total budget) to the education sector, aiming to improve infrastructure, teaching quality, and student performance. The statewide PTM initiative is another step toward enhancing parent-teacher communication, a practice previously common only in private schools.

Mann highlighted that Punjab’s government schools are improving rapidly, attracting students from private institutions. He reaffirmed that teachers would focus solely on education, unlike previous administrations that engaged them in non-teaching tasks.

Education Revolution in Punjab
Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, present at the event, praised Punjab’s education model, comparing the three-year progress under Mann’s leadership to 75 years of stagnation. He noted that government schools, once neglected, have undergone a remarkable transformation, offering quality education and world-class infrastructure.
