Punjab on High Alert as IMD Predicts Heavy Rain; Bhakra Dam Releases Water as Precaution

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): With floods disrupting normal life in large parts of Punjab, the state government has announced a temporary suspension of classes in all educational institutions until September 7, 2025.

The announcement was made by the Punjab Education Minister, who informed through a social media post that the decision was taken under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The order extends to schools, colleges, universities, and polytechnic institutes, covering both government and private sectors.

Officials stated that the step was necessary to ensure the safety of students and staff, as many districts remain affected by heavy rains and waterlogging. Residents have also been urged to strictly comply with advisories issued by local administrations during this period.

Punjab has been witnessing widespread flooding for over two weeks, leading to severe damage to homes, agriculture, and public infrastructure. Relief camps have been set up in several districts as authorities continue rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
