Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh); Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema issued a comprehensive set of instructions on Monday to all District Deputy Commissioners, mandating the swift and time-bound completion of all ongoing development projects under the Rangla Punjab Vikas Scheme. While chairing a high-level review meeting in Chandigarh, the Minister made it clear that any delays in the execution of Phase One projects would be considered unacceptable. He stressed that the government is committed to a rapid transformation of the province and that administrative efficiency is paramount to achieving these developmental goals.
In a bid to ensure that the progress remains continuous, Cheema ordered the immediate rollout of Phase Two of the scheme. He directed officials to bypass administrative hurdles and begin the second stage without delay, emphasizing that the momentum created during the initial phase must be sustained across all districts. For projects that have not yet commenced under the first phase, the Finance Minister issued a final warning, stating that strict action would be taken if these works do not start within a specified timeframe. He further instructed the Deputy Commissioners to step out of their offices and conduct regular field inspections to personally monitor the quality and pace of construction at the grassroots level.
Supporting the Minister’s call for accountability, Additional Chief Secretary Jaspreet Talwar introduced a mandatory digital reporting requirement. All project updates are now required to be uploaded to the state’s official portal on a daily basis to facilitate real-time monitoring and enhance transparency. By leveraging technology and rigorous oversight, the administration aims to prevent the misdirection of funds and ensure that every rupee spent contributes to the overall welfare of the people. This move signals a more disciplined approach to governance, where field officers are held directly responsible for the timely delivery of public infrastructure and services.
